Chapter 1
The transport van smelled of disinfectant and fear. Laura sat chained to the bench, wrists locked in standard police cuffs that bit into the soft skin just above the bones. Outside the reinforced windows the landscape of the Free Territory of Veyne rolled past under a low, perpetual grey sky—fields worked by silent figures in identical grey coveralls, watchtowers every kilometer, the occasional black sedan of the Compliance Authority gliding by.
She was eighteen. Two days earlier she had stood on the steps of the Ministry of Labor with a cardboard sign that read No human is property. The riot squad had taken her before the ink on the sign was dry.
The facility rose out of the industrial outskirts like a concrete ship: low, windowless, ringed by electrified mesh and silent drones. The van doors opened. Two handlers in black tactical uniforms hauled her out. The air was cold and carried the chemical tang of industrial cleaner.
Inside, the intake hall was bright, white, and humming with quiet machinery. A clerk behind a glass partition scanned her biometrics without looking up.
“Prisoner 47-L-188. Anti-slavery agitation. Sentenced to indefinite training and service. Collar series T-9.”
The police cuffs came off. In their place the handlers fitted heavy, padded leather restraints—thick black leather lined with soft suede, locked with heavy brass buckles and a secondary padlock at each wrist and ankle. The leather was already warm from the previous wearer. The weight settled on her bones like a promise.
They marched her down a corridor that smelled of latex and iodine.
The examination room was clinical, tiled floor to ceiling, a single steel table under surgical lights. A woman in a white coat and rubber apron waited, expression flat. Two orderlies stood ready.
Laura was stripped efficiently. The leather cuffs stayed on. She was ordered onto the table, ankles locked into stirrups that spread her legs wide, wrists secured above her head to a bar. The doctor worked without speaking at first—temperature, blood pressure, internal examination with gloved fingers and a cold speculum that made Laura’s stomach clench. Samples were taken. Measurements recorded.
When the physical was finished the doctor finally spoke, voice clipped and bored.
“Healthy. Intact. Suitable for collar training and chastity protocol.”
They sat her up. The training collar came next: a wide band of thick black leather, rigid, lined with conductive mesh. A small control box sat at the front, electrodes resting against the hollow of her throat. When it locked with a soft electronic click, a faint static charge ran across her skin—just enough to make every hair stand on end. The doctor tapped a tablet. The collar vibrated once, a warning pulse that made Laura’s breath hitch.
“Any attempt to remove it, any unauthorized speech above whisper volume, any resistance, and you will receive correction. Intensity increases with repeated offenses. Do you understand?”
Laura nodded. The collar gave a short, sharp sting as if testing the answer.
Next came the mitts. Heavy leather bags that locked over her hands, fingers forced into a useless fist inside thick padding, wrists already cuffed. Once sealed she could not grip, could not scratch, could not even feel the shape of her own palms. The world narrowed to what her elbows and shoulders could do.
Last was the training chastity belt. A solid steel plate, curved to fit her pelvis, locked at the waist and between the legs with heavy padlocks. A catheter was already inserted—smooth, clinical, taped and connected to a small internal reservoir. Behind, a short, thick anal plug of firm silicone was seated with lubricant that burned slightly, then locked in place by the rear of the belt. The whole apparatus was heavy. Every step would remind her it was there. Every attempt to close her legs would meet unyielding metal.
When they finished, Laura stood naked except for the leather and steel, mitts useless at her sides, the collar warm against her throat, the belt pressing the plug deeper with every breath.
They led her deeper into the facility. The cell block was colder. The light grew dimmer. Her cell was the last in a row of identical concrete boxes. The door was a heavy steel grate. Inside, the space was no larger than a large dog kennel—perhaps four feet by five, ceiling low enough that she could not stand fully upright. The floor was bare concrete. No bed. No blanket. A heavy galvanized water bowl was bolted to the floor in one corner, the rim thick enough that she would have to kneel and drink like an animal. A short length of heavy chain was fixed to an eyebolt in the back wall.
They forced her to her knees, attached the ankle cuffs to the chain so that she could not reach the door, then locked the grate. The overhead light clicked off.
Darkness closed in, absolute and cold.
Laura knelt in the center of the tiny space, the chain rattling softly when she shifted. The plug shifted inside her. The catheter made its presence known with every small movement. The mitts left her hands useless lumps of leather. The collar rested against her throat like a second pulse.
Somewhere far away a distant scream rose and was cut short by the sharp crack of an electrode.
She lowered her face to the metal bowl and drank. The water tasted of iron.
In the dark, the training had already begun.
