Chapter 7

‘So the question is’, the man who seemed to be the leader said when I finished; ‘now that you have told us that; what do we do with you?’

‘You said you would let me go. I won’t say anything; honest’, Simon said hopefully, but the man just laughed.

‘We’ll let you go eventually but I have a feeling as well as your own suffered you personally have done some things that are perhaps verging on illegal with those in your care. Should those come to light you would be investigated by the Police and may be jailed. Am I right?’

Simon said “no”; but the man seemed to know he was lying. Simon wasn’t proud of some of the things he had done alongside some of the other leaders, but they were no worse that the things he had suffered, but of course that didn’t make it right!

‘So the sooner you confess to what you did, the sooner we will let you go; knowing you won’t be tempted to run to the police in case we hand over the evidence.’

Simon nodded realising this was his only chance of getting out of this mess. Anyway, he reasoned, they weren’t going to use the recording unless he went to the Police; which he wasn’t about to do.

The leader held up his phone and Simon said what he was expected to say.

Once the recording was checked one of the other men said; ‘before we let you go could you teach us some of your knots; you being a Scout and all?’

Simon was confused about the request but anything to secure his quick release. He showed them several types of knot and after they had practised he thought that was it but there was one more request. ‘I suppose there is one type of knot that can only be undone by two people?’ the man asked innocently.

Simon thought and showed them the knot which required three hands simultaneously to undo; although why that was of interest he didn’t know.
