But to try again to express the puzzle I'm trying to solve: Manda was only involuntarily enslaved, BECAUSE she had the power to consent. If he hadn't had that power, Cody couldn't have enslaved her! More generally, Women are vulnerable to involuntary enslavement due to the fact that they can consent. If they could not, then they could not be involuntarily enslaved, because the potential enslaver would have to work with her owner.

I would like to make sure involuntary enslavements of free women are rare. Given that the power to consent is what makes them vulnerable, what can we do about that within the bounds of the law?

We already have caselaw that enslavers can buy and sell their slaves without input from their slaves, so it seems the two pathways are, the parents transfer ownership to someone of their own accord, she voluntarily enters into slavery with a person of her choosing, or she remains in that quasi-enslaved-to-parents state you described for adults who have not been enslaved. Is that in line with your suggestion?

Andrea internally revels in the gut-wrenching sound of Manda's pleas, feeling a deep sense of satisfaction at the knowledge that another woman will soon learn her place.

As the bailiff approaches Manda to cuff her, she attempts to back away, only to be stopped by the cold metal bars of the witness stand.
