Chapter 24 of 24
The Rolls-Royce pulled onto the gravel pathway of Blackwood Manor, the crunch of expensive stones under its tires the only sound in the sudden, oppressive silence. The air itself seemed to vibrate, a low, resonant hum that made the teeth ache. Simon climbed out of the car after his sister-in-law had scrambled to open the door for him, her movements clumsy in her sack dress. The moment his feet touched the ground, the vibration intensified, a wave of pure, undiluted power washing over the estate.
Jenny moved with a fluid, predatory grace. She opened the trunk and dragged Sylvia out by her ear, pulling on the leash attached to the thick metal collar now padlocked around her neck. Sylvia stumbled and fell, her body a limp, broken puppet. As Simon walked towards the manor, people fell to their knees. Not just his own party, but the villagers who had come to witness, the women preparing the feast, the caged men who served them. They all felt it, the undeniable aura of a god passing among them, and they could do nothing but prostrate themselves.
The great oak door to the manor was opened by an unseen force, swinging inward on silent hinges. He walked through, Jenny following with Sylvia crawling at her heels, then his sister-in-law, her head bowed. He walked into the great hall, the room where Emily was waiting on her throne. Nobody dared look up; the very air was too thick with power to permit such insolence.
Emily looked into his eyes, and he into hers. It was not a meeting of two people, but of two halves of a whole, a collision of cosmic forces. Emily stood, walked toward him, and they circled each other, their movements a slow, predatory dance, neither human knowing what was to come, only that this was inevitable.
Then the angels roared with joy; they had been kept apart for centuries, but their love had never weakened. Emily threw herself at Simon, and they kissed. It was not a kiss of flesh, but of souls, a merging of two ancient, powerful beings. There was an explosion of deep, almost black purple, a silent shockwave of pure energy that blew everybody in the room to the floor, knocking the wind out of them. In the village, dogs howled, and cats hissed and hid under beds. Birds flew in crazy, erratic circles, their instincts scrambled by the psychic blast.
Then came the outpouring of lust. It was a physical wave, a palpable force that descended on Wouldham. The whole village became depraved. The women, their inhibitions incinerated by the angels' passion, fucked the men, using them, their nails scratching their bodies, licking the blood from the wounds they had inflicted. Other women, closer to the source, fell at Simon's feet, as did some men, their bodies writhing in a frenzy of worship and desire. Emily and Simon were floating, not in the physical sense, but they looked down upon the depravity from a higher plane of existence, and knew that the angels were happy. They both felt such unbridled joy, a shared ecstasy that was more profound than any physical sensation.
The depravity went on throughout the day, only interrupted by the feast, which became a riotous, orgiastic celebration of their new reality. In the bordering villages of Buraham and Borstal, similar scenes played out. Couples tried things they had only read about in forbidden texts. People had sex with neighbors, partners who had long given up on each other suddenly lusted after one another with a desperate, renewed fervor. The world was changing, and it all began with a kiss in a small English village.
As the last echoes of the psychic blast faded, a new, profound silence settled over Blackwood Manor. The orgy of lust had burned itself out, leaving the inhabitants exhausted, bruised, and irrevocably changed. Emily and Simon stood in the center of the room, their hands clasped, their power a settled, heavy thing that had found its anchor. Their gaze fell upon Sylvia, who was still cringing on the floor, a forgotten offering in the aftermath of the storm.
With a subtle nod from Emily, Sylvia's mother, Anne, stepped forward. The woman who had once been a timid, subservient housewife now moved with the cold authority of a high priestess. Emily had given Sylvia to her with specific orders: keep her chaste, punish her regularly, and remind her every day of the life she had left behind . Sylvia's mother took the leash, her fingers curling around the leather with a grim satisfaction. She looked down at the broken beauty who had once been her daughter, the symbol of a world of ambition and cruelty that had consumed her. Without a word, she dragged Sylvia away. The former queen of the corporate world was led away to a life of quiet, humbling servitude. She was home.
Over the next few months, their rule solidified and expanded. The Dark Angels fueled them both, a constant source of dark, sexual energy that made them tireless, brilliant, and utterly ruthless. All the villages in the region fell under their influence, not through armies, but through whispers, through dreams, through the undeniable psychic pressure they exerted. Men and women fell at their feet. Men were either caged, their masculinity locked away as a symbol of the new order, or neutered, their power source physically removed. Women were used, their bodies and spirits broken and remade, and then given a little power over the men, a taste of authority that made them fiercely loyal to the new regime. Simon used both men and women; they were all just vessels for his angel, bodies to be filled with his seed and his will, tools to be used in building their empire.
Five years later, all of southeast England had been touched by them. The landscape had changed, not just politically, but spiritually. The old power structures were gone, replaced by a matriarchal theocracy that worshiped the Dark Angels as their living gods, Emily and Simon. London, the center of the old world, was now a shadow of its former self, its financial districts run by women loyal to Wouldham, its parliament a hollowed-out puppet government. England was changing and would never be the same again. The age of man was over. The age of the angels had begun.
