Chapter 20 of 25
"Your daughter is awake," Charles said, his voice flat as he lowered the camera, checking the image on the small screen with a critical eye. He tapped the device, bringing up a notification that had just buzzed through—a timestamped photo from Janey, showing the teenager lying in Chloe’s bed, Elena’s pale hand possessively splayed across the girl's throat while they both smiled at the lens with a cruelty that mirrored Charles's own.
Chloe recoiled in horror at the photo. "No, no, no"she whispered in an abject whimper.
The memory washed over Chloe like a sudden chill, cutting through the humid haze of the afternoon. For the last few months, while her mind had been fraying under the weight of a crushing depressive episode, her children hadn't even been under the same roof. She had sent them to her mother’s, ostensibly to protect them from her "moods," leaving the house silent and empty—a vacuum that she had been trying desperately to fill with anything to numb the boredom.
But the silence had been a lie. Elena had been there for six months, a quiet, dark presence in the background, slowly tightening the noose. Chloe recalled the way the au pair would move through the house, not with the deference of an employee, but with the imposing posture of a warden. Elena had been systematically dismantling her authority in front of the staff and even Leo. She would correct Chloe’s posture in the kitchen with a grip like iron, or whisper poisonous critiques about Chloe’s parenting when Leo was within earshot, eroding Chloe’s confidence until she felt like a ghost in her own home, afraid to speak, afraid to command.
The turning point had been a rainy Tuesday three weeks ago. Elena had cornered Chloe in the study, offering a way to "get back on track," her dark eyes promising structure and salvation if only Chloe would submit to her guidance. But Chloe, in a rare moment of defiant pride, had lashed out. She had told the girl to know her place, to stop acting like the mistress of the house. She had refused Elena’s help with a trembling, tearful scream.
The reprisal had been swift and psychological. By the time Leo returned home that evening, the narrative had already been rewritten. Elena had greeted him at the door with a look of practiced victimhood, spinning a tale so convincing it had become the truth in the house. She claimed that Chloe, in her unstable state, had offered her body to the au pair to keep her from quitting, a desperate attempt to buy loyalty with sex. Elena had played the part of the horrified innocent so well that Leo hadn't even asked Chloe for her side of the story. He had simply looked at his wife with a new, disgusted pity—a look that said he now believed she was capable of anything. That moment of gaslighting had broken something final inside Chloe, leaving her isolated and vulnerable, aching for anyone who might offer her a way out.
Anna had provided that option with her not so subtle appraisal at the checkout.
The memory of that afternoon in the supermarket hit Chloe with the force of a physical blow. The fluorescent lights, the sterile smell of polished floors, and the overwhelming stench of Anna—clove cigarettes and cheap rebellion. Anna hadn't just looked at her; she had dissected her. She had seen the cracks in Chloe’s armor, the way her hands shook as she reached for a bottle of wine, the desperate plea for destruction hidden behind the designer sunglasses. Anna had leaned in close, invading Chloe’s personal space, and whispered, "You look like someone who needs to be broken properly."
And Chloe, starved for any kind of sensation that wasn't the dull gray ache of her depression, had folded. She had let Anna tattoo her skin, brand her as "Property Of," and lead her into the gutter. She thought she was escaping the prison of her life, trading the gilded cage for the freedom of depravity. But looking at the photo on Charles’s screen, she realized she had simply jumped from the frying pan into the fire. She hadn't escaped her daughter; she had delivered her.
The air in the shed was thick with the smell of turpentine and the lingering heat of Chloe's striped back. She stood before the canvas, the iron collar heavy and cold against her throat, her eyes fixed on the grotesque painting of her own dissolution. Charles moved behind her, the sound of his shoes on the wooden floorboards rhythmic and deliberate. He reached out, his fingers tracing the raised welts on her shoulder, causing her to hiss through her teeth.
"She'll be done with you soon," Charles said, his voice a low rumble that seemed to vibrate through the floorboards. "Anna. I told you she was the catalyst, but she’s also the executioner. You know that, don't you?"
Chloe flinched at the name. The memory of the tattoo needle buzzing against her pubic bone, the searing pain of the ink marking her as "Property Of," flashed before her eyes. "She... she left it blank," Chloe stammered, her voice barely a whisper. "She didn't put a name."
Charles let out a dark, chuckling sound. He walked around to face her, leaning back against the workbench, crossing his arms. "She left it blank because she knew you weren't finished cooking. She was seasoning the meat, Chloe. But now that the meat is tender, now that you’ve been properly used and emptied out, she’s going to come back to finish what she started. She’s going to fill in that blank space with whatever she chooses. Or whoever she chooses."
He reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone, scrolling until he found the image of Janey and Elena in her bed. He held it up, the screen glowing in the dim light of the shed.
"Look at them," Charles said, his tone dropping to a predatory hiss. "Look at your daughter. She’s already being groomed. Elena has her teeth in her neck, showing her that power is the only thing that matters. Janey is learning that love is weakness, and ownership is strength. She’s watching her mother disappear, Chloe. She’s watching you become a thing, an object. And do you know what the final step is? The thing that cements Janey’s transition from innocent child to willing participant in this game?"
Chloe shook her head, tears spilling over her cheeks, hot and fast. She didn't want to know. She prayed he wouldn't say it.
"She needs to see the brand," Charles continued mercilessly. "She needs to see that you aren't her mother anymore. You're just canvas. And Anna... Anna is the artist who is going to claim you. When Anna finishes that tattoo, she’s not just going to write a name. She’s going to write Janey on that cunt of yours."
The words hit Chloe like a physical blow, knocking the breath from her lungs. "No," she choked out, her knees buckling. She would have fallen if Charles hadn't stepped forward, grabbing her by the iron collar and holding her up. "You can't. She's my baby. She's my little girl."
"Not anymore," Charles said, his face inches from hers. "She's the Mistress's daughter now. And you are the property. Elena is training her to be a cruel, beautiful thing, and Anna is going to ensure that your body reflects that reality. Imagine it, Chloe. Imagine lying there, legs spread, while Anna buzzes that needle over your clit. Imagine the pain, the burn, the permanent mark of your daughter’s name etched into your most private place. Every time you look in the mirror, every time you sit down, every time you take a piss, you will be reminded that you belong to her. That you are literally nothing more than a vessel for her amusement."
He released the collar, letting Chloe slump to the floor, and crouched down beside her. He took her chin in his hand, forcing her to look up at him.
"The question is, Chloe," he whispered, his eyes boring into hers with terrifying intensity. "When Anna comes for you, needle in hand, and tells you to spread your legs so she can tattoo your daughter's name on your cunt... will you let her? Will you hold still while she destroys the last shred of your humanity and turns you into Janey's personal slave? Or will you fight for a dignity you no longer possess?"
Chloe stared at him, her mind fracturing under the weight of the ultimatum. The image of Janey's face, smiling cruelly in the photo, superimposed itself over the memory of Anna's sadistic grin. She felt the phantom buzz of the tattoo gun, the phantom sting of the needle. She thought of the emptiness inside her, the hollow space where her soul used to be, and the dark, seductive pull of simply letting go—of letting Anna do whatever she wanted, of letting herself be branded like livestock if it meant she didn't have to think anymore.
Charles saw the surrender in her eyes before she even spoke. He smiled, a cold, satisfied curve of his lips.
"Yes," Chloe breathed, the word torn from her throat like a jagged piece of shrapnel. "I'll let her."
"Good girl," Charles said, standing up and looking down at her with the detached interest of a man admiring a finished sculpture. "Then it's time to go home. Anna is waiting."
He extended a hand. Not to help her up, but to lead her back into the cage. Chloe took it, her fingers trembling, and let him pull her toward the door, toward the car, toward the needle that would seal her fate.
The drive back to the suburbs felt like a funeral procession for the woman she had been. Charles drove with a languid confidence, one hand resting on the steering wheel while the other idly traced the fresh welts on Chloe’s thigh, ensuring the pain remained a constant, sharp companion. They didn't speak; there was nothing left to say. The landscape shifted from the gritty industrial decay of Charles’s neighborhood to the manicured perfection of her own, the green lawns and pristine white picket fences now looking like a row of tombstones marking the death of her innocence. As they turned onto her street, the sun was setting, casting long, blood-red shadows across the asphalt, a harbinger of the violence waiting inside the house that used to be her sanctuary.
They entered through the garage, the door rolling up with a mechanical groan that announced their return to the occupants inside. The kitchen was unnaturally quiet, the air thick with the scent of roast chicken—a perverse, domestic mockery of the nightmare unfolding. Charles didn't pause to admire the decor; he marched her straight to the living room, his grip on her arm like a vice. There, arranged on the pristine beige sofa as if they were royalty holding court, sat Anna and Elena. Janey was curled at Elena’s feet, her head resting in the au pair's lap, looking up with wide, adoring eyes that chilled Chloe to the bone. The sight of her daughter in that position of supplication, worshipping the woman who had stolen her life, broke the last fragile dam inside Chloe’s mind.
Anna stood up slowly, a predatory grin stretching across her face, her eyes glinting with a dark, manic delight. She was holding a small, black case in one hand, the other tapping a lit cigarette against an ashtray she’d set on the coffee table. "Perfect timing," Anna purred, her voice scraping against Chloe’s nerves like sandpaper. "We were just discussing the finishing touches on your renovation, Mrs. Chloe." She walked over, circling Chloe like a shark inspecting a wounded seal, before reaching out to grab Chloe’s chin, forcing her head up. "Did you have fun playing with the painter? Did he show you what a masterpiece of filth you really are?" Anna didn't wait for an answer; she simply looked down at Chloe’s exposed, tattooed pubic mound and smirked. "Good. Because now it’s time to make this official. We have an empty space to fill, and I think I know exactly whose name belongs there."
Anna snapped her fingers, the sharp sound cracking through the heavy silence like a gunshot. "Janey, come here," she commanded, her voice dripping with a dark, honeyed sweetness that made Chloe’s stomach turn. The teenager didn't hesitate; she disentangled herself from Elena’s lap with the fluid, eager obedience of a well-trained pet, crawling across the plush carpet on her hands and knees until she reached her mother's trembling legs. Janey looked up, her eyes devoid of the familiar warmth of childhood, replaced instead with a vacant, hungry curiosity that mimicked the women standing over her. "Look at her, Janey," Anna cooed, placing a hand possessively on the girl's head, tilting it back to gaze at the woman who had once nursed and rocked her. "Look at the canvas. She's empty inside. She's useless as a mother, but she’s going to make a wonderful thing for us to own. Don't you want to help Mommy find her purpose?"
Chloe let out a guttural sob, her knees finally giving out under the weight of the psychological torture. She collapsed onto the floor, her hands reaching out to grasp Janey's shoulders, desperate to find some spark of recognition, some remnant of the daughter she loved. "Baby, please," she begged, her voice cracking. "You don't understand what they're doing. This isn't right. I'm your mother." But Janey didn't lean into the embrace; instead, she recoiled slightly, looking up at Anna for permission before turning her gaze back down to Chloe with a sneer of adolescent disdain that seemed far too old for her face. "You aren't my mother," Janey said, her voice steady and cruel, twisting the knife deeper than any physical pain could. "Mommy wouldn't have let herself be turned into a whore. Mommy wouldn't have let them put that..." She gestured vaguely at Chloe's exposed crotch, "...that tattoo on her without a name. You're just a thing we found. You're property now."
Anna laughed, a low, throaty sound of victory, and kicked Chloe’s legs apart with the toe of her boot, clearing the space for the final act. "The child learns fast, Chloe," she said, crouching down and opening the black case to reveal the sleek, menacing hum of a tattoo gun. "She sees you for what you are. And now, we’re going to make sure everyone else does too." She looked at Charles, who stood by the door like a silent sentry, his face unreadable in the dim light. "Hold her legs open. Wide. I don't want her flinching and ruining the line." As Charles stepped forward to manhandle Chloe’s thighs into a painful, exposed V-shape, Anna leaned in close, the needle buzzing like an angry hornet near Chloe’s hip. "I was going to put my own name there," she whispered, her breath hot against Chloe’s ear, "but watching you break over your daughter... that’s the true art, isn't it? We’re going to give you to her. You’re going to be Property of Janey."
Janey smiles - Janey Bitch Goddess if you will, she says
Before Chloe could process the words, Anna pressed the needle against the tender, inflamed skin just above Chloe's clit. The pain was blinding, a white-hot sear that obliterated thought, reducing Chloe to a convulsing animal pinned to the floor. Charles’s grip was iron, his fingers digging into her thighs, holding her steady as Anna worked with a vicious, artistic precision. The gun buzzed incessantly, a drill boring into her soul, etching the jagged, gothic letters into her most private flesh.
BITCH. The first letter was a line of fire.
Chloe screamed, her back arching off the carpet, her hands scrabbling for purchase on the floorboards. Janey watched, mesmerized, her head tilted to the side like a curious bird, as her mother’s skin was permanently rewritten.
GODDESS. The second word followed, the needle grinding deeper, vibrating against her pelvic bone, sending shocks of agony and confusing arousal through her system. Tears streamed down Chloe’s face, mixing with the sweat beading on her forehead, but Anna didn't stop. She worked the ink into the raw flesh, turning the "Property Of" banner into a complete sentence of ownership: PROPERTY OF: BITCH GODDESS.
"There," Anna said finally, wiping away the blood and excess ink with a rough paper towel, leaving Chloe gasping and sobbing on the floor. "It suits you. A deity of filth." She stood up, packing the gun away with casual indifference. "Now, get up. We're leaving."
"Leaving?" Chloe rasped, her throat raw from screaming. She tried to curl into a ball, to hide her ruined crotch from the room, but Charles yanked her up by her arm.
"You didn't think this was just for us, did you?" Anna said, grabbing her coat from the sofa. "You think this kind of training comes for free? We have debts, Chloe. And you’re the currency."
Anna dragged her out the front door, not even bothering to cover her up. The cool night air hit Chloe’s sweat-slicked skin as she was shoved into the backseat of Anna’s beat-up sedan. Janey and Elena stood on the porch, watching them go, waving with a synchronized, eerie farewell. Charles stood on the lawn, watching the taillights fade, his job as the preparer complete.
The drive was a blur of streetlights and Chloe’s own whimpering. They drove away from the suburbs, back toward the city, passing the clean downtown blocks and descending into the industrial grime where the streetlights were sparse and the sidewalks were crowded with the lost. Anna pulled up to a building that looked less like a motel and more like a concrete bunker, flickering neon sign buzzing with the word "NO TELL" in missing letters.
"Get out," Anna ordered.
They walked through the lobby, the clerk behind the bulletproof glass not even looking up as Anna marched Chloe past, her bare feet silent on the stained carpet. They stopped at room 114. Anna knocked, a sharp, rhythmic code.
The door opened instantly, revealing a man who filled the doorway. Marcus. He was a mountain of muscle and grease, wearing a tank top that strained against his arms and a look of predatory appraisal in his eyes. He leaned against the doorframe, chewing on a toothpick, his eyes raking over Chloe’s trembling form.
"So this is the prize," Marcus drawled, his voice like gravel crunching under tires. He reached out, grabbing a handful of Chloe’s hair and pulling her into the room. "The suburban slut Anna’s been bragging about."
"She owes you for the ink and the room," Anna said, leaning against the doorframe, lighting a cigarette as she watched Marcus manhandle Chloe. "And for the... discretion. Consider her a down payment on the future investment."
Marcus threw Chloe onto the bed, which was covered in a stiff, starchy sheet that smelled of bleach and mildew. Chloe scrambled backward, her eyes darting around the room—it was a dungeon in disguise, equipped with chains bolted to the walls and a camera mounted on a tripod in the corner.
"Let me see the merchandise," Marcus grunted, climbing onto the bed and forcing Chloe’s legs open. He sneered as he looked at the fresh, raw tattoo. "Bitch Goddess," he read aloud, chuckling darkly. "A bit grandiose, but I like the sentiment." He looked up at Anna. "You broke her spirit, but did you break her body? That’s what I care about."
"She's tough," Anna said, exhaling a plume of smoke. "But she's learning. Do what you want with her, Marcus. Just make sure she’s still breathing when I come back for her. I have plans."
"Deal," Marcus said. He turned his attention back to Chloe, his hand closing around her throat, squeezing just hard enough to make her vision sparkle. "You hear that, princess? You’re mine for the night. And I’m a man who likes to get his money’s worth."
He looked at the camera, then back at Chloe, a cruel smile spreading across his face. "Smile for the investors, slut. We're going to make a movie."
