Chapter 1 of 3
Preface:
In the words of the immortal Mr. Peabody, "Sherman, set the way back machine to the glorious 1970s. The age of disco, tube tops, and rectal thermometers."
Yes, people really did shove a thermometer up each other's butts and it was a normal humiliation we had to endure - sometimes right out in the kitchen or living room. This short story is based on my own observations of the genre of "Girl's Don't Need Modesty" stories. I grew up when they could run around braless with tits freely jiggling in tiny tube tops, and hot shorts. They could run around the yard topless in just panties and play in the sprinklers.
My Aunt made us all strip down at the beach right out in the open at the shower by the parking lot to "Washt he sand out of our butt cracks" and scoffed when I hesitated. "Nobody out here wants to see what you have, you have to have something swinging between your legs first before you need to hide it. Now, wash your ass before I wash it for you."
Initially, this story was going to be longer and I still have rough drafts of the later chapters. It's remarkably similar to how it was at my Aunts house and I center this event around Elvis's so-called death because like the Challenger and 9/11, it was one of those moments in history that people mark where they were the day they heard about it.
However, I ultimately decided that I just wanted to post this vignette. Typically, I write much longer stories as I also enjoy reading longer stories. The trick is taking them in smaller chunks. It allows me to watch their growth and evolution over time. I don't want to fall in love with the character only for it to end prematurely.
I based this main character (as you will see from the title image below) heavily on the character of Iris in Taxi Driver. I often wondered what life was like for Iris before she hit the streets. She alludes to it and so I wrote this with that in mind. However, I should also say in the immortal words of Mister Peabody "All characters in this story are fictional and over 18."
Now, on with the show.
