Chapter 23

The disappearance of Amelia Jackson was a ghost story whispered in the sterile hallways of corporate power. It wasn't a sudden vanishing, but a slow, methodical erasure. Her name was scrubbed from the company website, her login credentials deleted overnight. Whispers of fraudulent business practices and outright theft began to circulate, conveniently timed and artfully vague, referring to a rogue executive who had fled the country to avoid prosecution. An anonymous tip to the Financial Conduct Authority sealed her fate, triggering an investigation that found a paper trail of damning evidence, all meticulously crafted to lead to a dead end in Dubai. Amelia was gone, a cautionary tale of unchecked ambition, swallowed by the shadows she once commanded.

In her place, Jonathan Clements was returned to the seat of his power. But he was not the same man. The arrogance had been leached out of him, replaced by a quiet, unnerving intensity. He was decisive, ruthless even, but there was a new humility in his bearing, a deference to shadows that his old board members found deeply unsettling. His greatest change was his new personal assistant. A quiet, competent woman named Helen, whose loyalty was not to the CEO, but to a third party. Every evening, Helen would compile a report—a simple, factual account of Jonathan's day, his decisions, his moods—and send it via encrypted email to a single address. Jonathan knew he was watched, a puppet on a very short string, and the knowledge kept him grounded.

The first and most public sign of his new life was the most baffling. Clements Electronics, a titan of the supply chain, announced a bold new diversification. It was acquiring a chain of successful laundrettes across Kent. The board was confused, the market unimpressed, but Jonathan was insistent. He announced that he had hired a renowned business consultant to oversee the transition and the everyday running of a business he knew nothing about. In the press releases and at the initial meetings, Mildred Smith’s name was mentioned. She was portrayed as a reclusive genius, a laundrette magnate who had agreed to lend her expertise. Jonathan paid her a substantial retainer, but in reality, the money was a tithe, a tribute. It was Mildred who now truly owned a significant stake in his empire, her name clean, her fortune secure.

Jonathan worked to undo the damage Amelia had wrought. He fired all of her associates, the sycophants and predators she had brought in, except for a few who, to his surprise, were genuinely excellent at their jobs. He managed to rehire almost all of his old, loyal staff, offering generous severance packages to those who had chosen not to return, a quiet apology in the form of a cheque. He was a changed leader, effective but haunted, often seen staring out of his office window, his hand unconsciously touching his throat.

Mildred, for her part, had all but retired from public life. She sold her old house and bought a new one, a sprawling, isolated property on the crest of Bluebell Hill, with panoramic views of the Kentish countryside. The house was beautiful, but it was the cellar that had been the true attraction when she first viewed it. It was huge, a cavernous space of dank stone and exposed brick, with heavy support beams and a floor that could be easily hosed down. It was perfect.

It was in this cellar that Mildred now sat, a queen in her new, dark throne room. She was dressed in high stiletto-heeled boots, one crossed elegantly over the other. A thin, acrid column of smoke rose from the Woodbine cigarette dangling from her lips.

Licking the dried grime and mud from the sole of her boot was a shaved head. The head belonged to a body marked with evidence of punishment, both recent and old. Faint silver lines of old scars criss-crossed her back and buttocks, while fresher, angrier welts from the previous night's discipline still painted her skin. Her body was lean and wiry, the softness of her old life erased by a year of hard labor and a healthy diet. This creature was Amelia Jackson, or what was left of her. She lived for these nightly visits from her mistress, her only connection with another living person. The chain attached to the heavy, wrought iron collar around her neck was not locked, but welded. Permanent. It snaked across the cold stone floor to a thick iron ring set deep into the foundation wall of the cellar, allowing her just enough freedom to reach the military-style cot that served as her bed, the books in the bookshelf, the toilet. and shower.

"Cleaner," Mildred commanded, her voice a low rumble. "You missed a spot."

Amelia’s tongue, rough and dry, worked with desperate diligence, tracing the deep treads of the boot, her entire being focused on this one, abject task. This was her whole world now: the taste of leather and dirt, the scent of Mildred’s perfume mixed with stale smoke, and the ever-present threat of the riding crop that lay on the table beside Mildred.

Mildred took a long drag from her cigarette, her eyes closed, a look of profound satisfaction on her face. The game was won. She had her money, her quiet power, her beautiful home, and her pets. Toby and Jane were now her full-time slaves, their old lives forgotten. Toby, her powerful dog, tended to the grounds, his muscles straining as he chopped wood or dug in the garden under her watchful eye, his dog mask and tail a constant reminder of his place. Jane, her delicate, beautiful slut, managed the house, her Rubbermaid uniform a constant hum of submission, her tongue ever-ready to provide her mistress with the comfort and adoration she craved. Amelia was her special project and hers alone.

Mildred opened her eyes and looked down at the shaven head at her feet. She thought about Jonathan, locked in his cage, desperate for the few moments of relief she granted him during their "consultations". She thought about Toby, humming contentedly in his kennel. She thought about Jane, preparing her evening meal with quiet grace. And she looked at Amelia, the great predator, now reduced to nothing.

She stubbed out her cigarette. "Enough," she said. "Tonight, you've earned a treat."

From a drawer, she pulled a small, silver key. It was the key to the electronic chastity belt Amelia wore, the one that tormented her day and night. As Mildred stood and walked towards her, Amelia began to whimper, a sound of both terror and a desperate, horrifying hope. The queen was about to bestow a mercy, but in Mildred's kingdom, every mercy could be just another, more exquisite form of cruelty.

A collection of stories about the St. Margaret’s Academy for Wayward Girls, an all-girls boarding school where chastity belts are common, masturbation is forbidden, and the students just can’t keep their heads clear of lustful thoughts as they sleep. Not only that, every day before class, the girls are required to line up for their morning inspections with their skirts lifted up above their waists. With months of denial bottled up inside, they must do everything they can to stop themselves from getting wet as their teacher walks by to check their virginities. Over a thousand such girls attend the academy at various grades, and between the spankings dealt out every day and the plugs they have to wear in their bottoms as punishment, they have little option but to keep themselves chaste as they wait for their long-anticipated release.
