Chapter 15 of 23
"You can't go back to that," Mildred said, her voice a low murmur against Victoria's hair. It wasn't a question. It was a statement of fact.
"I know," Victoria whispered, the words feeling both terrifying and liberating. "But I have nothing. No clothes, no money, no home. They'll find me."
"They won't," Mildred said, her tone firm. "You'll stay here. With me. For a few days, at least. Just to get your head straight. We'll figure things out."
Her suggestions were so reasonable, so kind, that Victoria agreed without a second thought. "Just for a few days," she repeated, as if saying it aloud made it a binding contract.
The first few days were a gentle, blissful haze of recovery. Mildred fed her, clothed her in some of her own simple, comfortable clothes, and let her rest. There were no demands, no punishments, no humiliations. It was a kindness so profound it was almost painful. But beneath the gentle care, a subtle shift was occurring. It was so gradual, so cleverly disguised as concern, that Victoria didn't even realize what was happening.
"It's not healthy for you to be idle," Mildred said on the third day, as they were drinking coffee in the sunny kitchen. "It will give you too much time to think, to dwell. Why don't you help me with the horses? Just mucking out the stalls. It's good, honest work."
Victoria, eager to repay the woman's kindness, agreed. The work was hard, physical, and mind-numbingly repetitive, but Mildred was right. It left her too exhausted to think, too tired to feel the old anxieties creeping in. And as she worked, Mildred would watch, offering quiet suggestions. "No, not like that, darling. Use your back more. You look so clumsy. We need to make you more graceful."
The compliments were always couched in gentle criticism. "You're such a pretty girl, but your posture is terrible. Stand up straight. Shoulders back. Chin up. Let me see you." Victoria would comply, desperate for the approval that followed. "That's better. So much better. You're learning."
By the end of the first week, Victoria was as much a slave to Mildred's approval as she had been to Richard and Akiko's commands. She lived for the soft "good girl" that would follow her successful completion of a task, for the gentle pat on the head that was her reward. The dynamic had shifted so subtly that she hadn't even noticed. She was no longer a guest recovering from trauma; she was a project being molded.
The turning point came one evening. They were sitting on the sofa, and Victoria was talking, rambling really, about her old life, her successes, her regrets. Mildred listened patiently, then held up a hand.
“Shhh, now," she said softly. "You talk too much."
"I'm sorry," Victoria said, immediately falling silent.
"No, don't be sorry. Just be quiet," Mildred said. The next day, a small, flat package arrived. Inside was a sleek, black collar, not of leather, but of some cool, smooth material. It had no buckle, just a seamless clasp.
"It's a special piece of jewelry. She fitted it around Victoria's neck. It clicked shut
."I..." Victoria began to thank Mildred when a sharp, unpleasant jolt, like a static shock, shot through her neck. She yelped in surprise and pain.
Mildred had a satisfied smile on her lips. “I think it’s best if you only speak when I give you permission. It's for your own good."
The chastity belt was removed that same day. "You've earned a little freedom," Mildred said. "But you must be responsible. Your body is mine to enjoy now, not yours to pleasure without my say." The freedom was an illusion, a different kind of cage.
.Victoria wasn't allowed to wear makeup; her face was scrubbed clean each morning. When she was allowed to dress, it was in a shapeless, dreary brown dress that hung on her like a sack, erasing her form, her identity.
By the end of the second week, Victoria was a ghost in Mildred's house, a silent, obedient shadow. She moved with a quiet, deferential grace, her eyes always downcast, waiting for a command, a look, a word.
She was introduced to her new quarters as casually as everything else. They were in the basement, a dry, cool space that smelled of earth and wine. In one corner was a small, dog-like cage, just large enough for a person to lie curled up inside.
"This will be your room," Mildred said, as if it were the most natural thing in the world. "It's quiet down here. You won't be disturbed." Leg manacles, connected by a short, heavy chain, became more or less a permanent feature, a constant, clanking reminder of her status. Mildred had used every part of Victoria’s body with a variety of different-sized strap-ons, her touch clinical and demanding, taking her own pleasure without any regard for Victoria's comfort. And she had shown how effective she was with a horse whip, the thin, flexible leather leaving sharp, stinging welts across Victoria's back and buttocks for the slightest infraction—a misplaced dish, a moment of hesitation, a look that Mildred deemed disobedient.
At the end of the third week. Mildred's horse riding group, a collection of women of various ages, all with the same horsey, aristocratic air, came to the cottage for tea and a "demonstration." Victoria was made to serve them, naked except for her collar and manacles, her head bowed. They watched her with cool, appraising eyes, their murmured comments like the buzzing of flies. Mildred paraded her, making her walk, kneel, and turn, showing off her training like a prize animal at a show. Victoria's face burned with a shame so deep it felt like a physical brand, but she didn't dare disobey. She had learned that lesson.
Later, after the women had left, Mildred chained her in her cage. She knelt in front of the bars, her face close to Victoria’s. “I think you need a little fattening up, my dear, my friend thinks you’re a bit bony”
The next week began with a new ritual. Mildred led Victoria into the study, a room dominated by a large mahogany desk and the scent of old leather and pipe tobacco. In the center of the room, on a small Persian rug, sat a set of old-fashioned, brass scales, the kind one might see in a vintage market. Beside it was a measuring tape.
"Stand on the scales," Mildred commanded, her voice calm and matter-of-fact.
Victoria obeyed, her manacles clinking softly with the movement. Mildred adjusted the weights, her brow furrowed in concentration. She made a note on a small pad of paper. Then she took the measuring tape. She wrapped it around Victoria's chest, her waist, her hips, her thighs. With each measurement, she let out a soft, disapproving tut.
"You're all skin and bones," Mildred declared, her voice laced with a disappointment that cut Victoria deeper than any whip. "This won't do at all. This is the body of a stressed, neglected creature. We need to build you up. Make you healthy. Make you substantial."
From that day on, Victoria's life changed again. She was no longer allowed to help with the horses. "Too much energy burned," Mildred explained. "Your work now is to rest and to eat." And eat she did. Three times a day, Mildred would present her with high-fat, high-calorie meals. Thick, creamy soups loaded with butter and cream. Huge portions of pasta with rich, meaty sauces. Roasts with all the trimmings, followed by puddings swimming in custard. At first, Victoria, whose stomach had shrunk from neglect, struggled to finish it all.
"I can't," she'd whisper, her stomach churning.
Mildred's response was always the same. She would bring out the horse whip. "You can, and you will," she'd say, her voice soft but deadly. "This is not a punishment, my dear. This is care. I am caring for you. Now, eat." The threat of the whip was enough to make Victoria force down every last mouthful, her body a battlefield between Mildred's will and her own rebellious stomach.
Her body was no longer her own to groom. The razors were put away. Her hair was allowed to grow out, and it soon began to take on its natural curls. Her pubic hair, once shaved bare, grew back into a thick, untamed bush. Her underarms sprouted a thatch of dark hair. She was becoming wild, untamed, a creature being returned to a more primal state, all under the guise of "health."
The changes were slow but undeniable. The soft flesh began to pad her ribs, her hips widening, her breasts becoming fuller and heavier. Her face, once sharp and angular, softened. The collar, once snug, began to feel tight. One evening, Mildred noticed it.
"It's time for an adjustment," she said, producing the same sleek, black collar, but this time with a slightly longer segment. She removed the old one and fitted the new, the click of the lock a familiar, final sound. "There now," she said, admiring her work. "A perfect fit for a growing girl."
After a month, the ritual was repeated. Victoria stood on the scales, her body feeling heavier, more solid. Mildred took the measurements, her lips pursed in concentration as she noted the new numbers. When she was finished, she looked at Victoria, a slow, satisfied smile spreading across her face.
"That's better," she said, her voice warm with approval. "Much better. You're starting to look like a real woman now. A healthy, robust woman.”
