Chapter 22 of 23
Victoria was led into the manor house, her golden leash held firm in Mildred's grip. The grand entrance hall was a cavern of marble and light, and the staff, a collection of impeccably dressed men and women, moved with silent, efficient grace. What struck Victoria most was their utter lack of reaction. They didn't stare, they didn't flinch, and they didn't even seem to register that she was manacled and collared. It was as if she were just another piece of furniture, a normal, expected part of the scenery. It was a chilling yet strangely comforting display of absolute normalization.
They were led into a large reception room with high ceilings and elegant furnishings. The air buzzed with the low, sophisticated hum of conversation. The room was filled with women of all ages, some younger than Mildred, some older, all dressed with an air of effortless wealth and authority. But it was the lining of the walls that truly captured Victoria's attention. Along the perimeter, like living statues, stood a selection of chained and bound people, a mixture of men and women. Some were naked, their bodies marked with various implements of restraint. Others were dressed in tight, restrictive latex or leather outfits. Many wore the same blinking electric collar that Mildred had originally placed around Victoria's neck, a silent threat of discipline.
Victoria expected to be placed with them, another ornament in this human gallery. But Mildred led her past them toward a small, empty loveseat against one wall. She positioned Victoria in front of it and, with a small, ornate key, unlocked Victoria's wrists. The leash and the chains connecting the manacles were removed, but the golden cuffs themselves stayed in place, a gleaming, permanent adornment. Mildred sat beside her, patting the cushion beside her, and then seamlessly joined the other ladies in conversation, her hand resting possessively on Victoria's thigh.
Eventually, a soft, melodic bell rang, and the ladies filed into a spacious, opulent dining room. Victoria noticed that each chair had a small space beside it and a plush velvet cushion on the floor. The subs, a silent, obedient procession, knelt on the cushions beside their owners, their leashes attached to a discreet hook beneath the large, heavy table. All, except for Victoria. Mildred guided her to a chair of her own, right next to her Mistress.
As they ate a series of exquisite courses, the ladies talked to her about business and plans, their questions sharp and insightful. Victoria answered, her mind clear and focused, but she was always mindful of her station. She replied with quiet reverence, a deference that was both genuine and performative, a perfect balance of the expert consultant and the devoted pet.
After the last course, the coffee and liqueurs were cleared away, and they were led back to another large reception room, even grander than the first. This time, the subs remained kneeling at their feet, a silent, watchful audience. Mildred led Victoria to the center of the room, then stood beside her, a proud, possessive hand on her shoulder.
A tall, imposing woman with silver hair piled elegantly atop her head stepped forward. "Ladies," she said, her voice clear and carrying. "I am Lady Dunstan. As some of you may know, I hold a position of standing within our Sisterhood." She paused, letting her words settle in the silent room. "Once a year, an award of excellence is presented to one submissive and one slave for their work advancing the Sisterhood or its offshoots. It is a rare honor. Tonight, we are here to honor Victoria."
Victoria blushed, a hot, creeping wave of color rising up her neck. Lady Dunstan continued, "Every one of the proposals she has drafted for Mildred's portfolio has proved financially sound and strategically brilliant. But her last proposal, the one for her former company, is a perfect example of her unique talent. It was ruthless, insightful, and will be immensely profitable."
The room erupted in applause, a wave of sound that washed over Victoria, leaving her dizzy with a strange mix of pride and humiliation.
Lady Dunstan raised a hand for silence. "This award is also a moment of reckoning. We are all aware of the unfortunate situation involving the previous CEO”s. They overextended themselves, grew arrogant, and reneged on many of their deals with the Sisterhood. That is unacceptable. It is a failure of discipline and a failure of character."
As she spoke, a plinth was rolled into the center of the room. On top of it lay a thick stack of documents, neatly bound in a leather folder. "Victoria's proposal was the solution," Lady Dunstan said. "Tonight, Victoria will sign the final deal that will see her former company absorbed and restructured under our control. If she wishes, she will be the one to run it."
Victoria couldn't believe what she was hearing. Her heart was hammering against her ribs. Run the company? Her company? She looked at Mildred, eyes wide with disbelief. Mildred nodded, a slow, warm, genuine smile spreading across her face. She leaned in and whispered, "You've earned it."
Lady Dunstan waved her hands toward two men standing at the back of the room, by an ancient, imposing wooden door. One of them opened it. Victoria expected it to creak, a sound of age and dread, but it opened smoothly, silently, on well-oiled hinges. From the darkness beyond came a sound. A sound Victoria knew intimately. The sharp, wet crack of a cane hitting flesh, followed by a muffled, desperate whimper. And the unmistakable rattle of chains.
Victoria put her hand to her mouth
The shock of seeing Richard, so utterly broken and debased, was a physical blow. It stole the air from Victoria's lungs, leaving her gasping, her mind a blank, white screen of disbelief. The man who had been her husband, her Master, her tormentor, was being led like an animal, a pathetic creature defined by his degradation. The heavy metal collar around his neck was attached to a thick, clanking chain, and his arms and legs were cuffed, forcing him into a humiliating, bent posture.
But the shock didn't end there.
The man leading Richard stopped in the center of the room, pulling the chain taut. Richard whimpered, a low, pathetic sound. But the chain didn't stop with him. It continued, snaking across the polished floor. And at the end of that chain, being pulled forward by the momentum of Richard's advance, was another figure. A woman. Naked. Chained. Shaved.
It was Akiko.
Victoria's mind reeled, refusing to process the information. Akiko, the ice queen, the cruel, unyielding Mistress who had orchestrated her downfall, was on her hands and knees, just like Richard. A heavy metal collar, identical to Richard's, was locked around her neck. Her head, once framed by a sleek, sophisticated bob, was completely shaved, leaving it pale and exposed. Manacles cuffed her wrists behind her back and her ankles together, rendering her just as helpless, just as pathetic as the man she had once commanded. The chain from Richard's collar was attached to the front of Akiko's, making them a single, grotesque unit of suffering. They were a two-headed beast of failure, led to the slaughter.
A wave of something cold and sharp washed over Victoria. It wasn't pity. It wasn't even triumph. It was a profound, soul-deep understanding of the absolute, unforgiving nature of this world. This was the Sisterhood. This was what happened when you failed them. There were no second chances. There was no redemption. There was only ownership, and if you proved to be an unworthy or unreliable asset, you were stripped of all value, reduced to the lowest possible state, and used as an object lesson.
Lady Dunstan looked down at the two groveling figures with an expression of bored contempt. "As you can see," she said, her voice cutting through the stunned silence of the room, "discipline has been... administered. Their assets have been seized, their contracts dissolved. They are now property of the Sisterhood, to be used as we see fit. A cautionary tale."
She then turned her gaze to Victoria, her expression softening into one of approval. "But you, Victoria, you have proven your worth. You have taken your own failures and humiliation and turned them into strength. You have become an asset of immense value."
She gestured to the plinth with the documents. "Your old company is now yours to run. A subsidiary of our holdings. You will answer to Mildred and to me. You will have power, responsibility, and wealth."
Victoria looked from the broken, shivering forms of Richard and Akiko to the smiling, proud face of Mildred. She looked at the golden manacles on her wrists and felt the heavy collar around her neck. She was a slave, yes. But she was a slave who had been given the keys to a kingdom. She was a queen in a gilded cage. And as she stood there, the center of attention, the object of both admiration, she knew, with a certainty that settled deep in her bones, that she would never, ever, let them down.
