Chapter 3

So, I hear you wonder, how did I come to be in this position?

Sometime ago, it may be weeks or months I don’t really know, I joined a new dating app. I can’t remember how I came across it; it may have been recommended I don’t know. The profile page required a lot more information before starting the matching service than I had encountered in previous apps I had used; but that was a good thing surely! I mean it would lead to a better match wouldn’t it?

Why did I join a dating app? The answer I would have thought was obvious; I am and incredibly shy person. I had never met people of the opposite sex that were the slightest bit interested in me and I wasn’t the sort of person to go to clubs or even bars where I might meet a potential partner. Some would class me as a loner butI wanted company that might lead to a permanent romance. Not too much to ask surely!

It was a while before the app supplied a possible match. This particular app didn’t use the swipe concept, it just offered a match based on the information you submitted and, if after a first date you didn’t match up, it refined the next selection based on your feedback. It seemed to me like a very sophisticated process. I was wrong - it was in fact a honey trap!!

I had almost given up on it when my phone chimed with an alert. I could only connect to the prospective date using the app; at this stage no photos were shared, simply a brief resume. The lady in question; called Tina was, according to the app, a 90% match, which was impressive.

We “met” via the app and then agreed to meet in person at a pub mid-way between where we both lived; fortunately she lived in London like me - or at least she said she did.

When we finally met for a drink I was impressed. She was 38 years old according to the resume, slim build and 5ft 7ins, all of which proved to be true. She had lovely blond hair; strawberry blond I believe it’s called, tied in a ponytail that I found quite sensual for some reason.

Looking back on that date it seems she was the one who asked me lots of questions about my dating history, current relationships, what I did for a living, where I lived etc, whilst I just asked lamely how long she had been “doing” the app!

I couldn’t believe it when she suggested meeting again but I readily agreed; this dating app was indeed proving to be very successful.

Since I had suggested the venue for the first date she said she would choose the next venue but suggested I meet her at her flat and we could get an Uber together to save money.

The following Friday I found myself ringing the doorbell of an end of terrace property in a slightly upmarket part of Hackney. Tina came to the door looking as radiant as the last time we met and invited me in saying she was just finishing getting ready.

She offered me a drink and I accepted a glass of wine whilst she went off to do what ladies do. Of course we all know to be careful about open glasses in a pub environment, but this wasn’t such a place and the thought never entered my head. In fact no other thought entered my head because the room went dark.
