Chapter 17 of 22
The days that followed fell into a new, disturbing rhythm. Katherine was a ghost at her own job, a functioning automaton performing as Detective Sergeant Jones. By day, she masterfully misdirected her colleagues, her lies growing more sophisticated, her ability to wear the mask of integrity becoming unnervingly flawless. She planted false evidence, sabotaged witness interviews, and redirected the investigation towards a Russian syndicate that existed only on paper. Her partner Sarah would occasionally look at her with a flicker of concern, but Katherine would meet her gaze with a new, hardened confidence that would always make Sarah look away, confused and unsettled. The cop Katherine had been was dying, and in her place was something colder, more calculating.
The nights belonged to the Jamesons. Her summons always came via the burner phone, and they all wanted a taste. It was Helen who called her next. Not to the estate this time, but to a private, high-end BDSM club in the heart of the city, a place called 'The Sanctum'. The Jamesons owned it, of course.
The scene was set in one of the club's more... theatrical rooms. The floor was black marble, the lights were dim, creating shadows that danced like ghosts. Don Jameson was center stage, so to speak. He was bound to a heavy wooden cross, his arms and legs stretched wide, his body tight with tension and fear. The human cane-stand Katherine had whipped was now a living target.
Helen orchestrated the scene with the detached elegance of a concertmaster. "My darling Katherine," she began, her voice a low purr that carried through the dungeon. "You have a knack for punishment. But subtlety is an art. Pain is more than just making the skin bleed. It's about anticipation. It's about the mind."
Helen gestured to a tea cart nearby. On it was an assortment of candles in various shades, all the colors of lipsticks. Red, burgundy, a deep, bruised purple. "Don has been a very, very naughty boy this week," Helen explained, running a single, sharp nail down Don’s tense thigh. "He made an unauthorized financial transaction. A trifling amount, really, but it's the principle of the thing. He tried to steal from me."
She handed Katherine a long, white candle. "This one is vanilla. So wholesome, isn't it?" She lit it with a silver lighter. "I find hot wax is so wonderfully versatile. The right temperature can cleanse, but with a little heat, a little time... it becomes a torment."
Helen pointed to Don's chest. "Right over his heart. Teach him what it feels like."
Katherine held the candle, her hand steady. She tilted it, and a single droplet of wax fell, landing like a tiny starburst of heat on Don’s skin. He grunted, his body flinching. She moved it higher, and this time, the wax had a moment to cool slightly before it hit, forming a thick, painful welt. She drizzled it along his ribs, watching as his skin turned red, then blotchy. With the red candle, the wax was hotter, and his gasps became louder. She dotted it across his nipples, which hardened into tight, tortured beads. She felt a detached sense of artistry, of mastery. She was creating something beautiful in her suffering.
"Don't be my biggest disappointment; he was never up to the legacy of his name. " Go on. Use the purple. Show him what you think of his legacy."
The purple wax was different. It smelled of artificial berries and something chemical, something acrid. It was the hottest yet. Katherine held it over Don's groin, letting the wax drip and splatter onto his soft, uncaged cock and sagging balls. He writhed now, a low, mournful sound escaping his lips. He was a pathetic sight, a tapestry of hardened, colored wax and reddened, abused skin. And looking at him, looking at her canvas of revenge, Katherine didn't feel pity. She felt nothing. It was as if she were filing a report. The evidence was there, the conclusion was clear, and her emotions were irrelevant.
"He always thought I would be a good little mob wife, who allowed his indiscretions, who would never question his power," Helen murmured, stepping up to stand beside her. "A little bitch who would follow him like his mother followed his father. " She laughed at that. "But he was never the man his father was, and I was never going to be the wife his mother was."
Helen took the purple candle from her, her hand now brushing Katherine's. She was close, her scent of expensive perfume and something darker, ozone and power, enveloping Katherine. "Only I understand the real power; I felt it when his father fucked me for the first time. He was a man I could have truly cowed, too, much like Karl, but I knew I was just a distraction to him. A tool to show he could take anything, anytime he wanted. I understood that; he taught me that lesson. He passed on a legacy, all right, but it wasn't to this pathetic thing; it was to me."
She leaned in, her lips brushing Katherine's ear. "I've been watching you. Watching the fire in you grow. It's a magnificent thing. But fire is volatile. It needs guidance. A steady hand." Her own hand came up to cup Katherine's cheek, a gesture that was shockingly gentle. "You've satisfied Karl's appetite for punishment. And you've learned a bit about flavor from me with our dear Don. But you still have one more lesson to learn."
She pulled back, her eyes intense. "Jamie."
The name hung in the air between them. Jamie, the dominatrix who had first broken her, her first Mistress.
"She is my creature," Helen said, her voice dropping to a silken whisper. "I made her. I found her on the street, a terrified little stray, and I molded her into the perfect weapon of desire and destruction. But a weapon can be... unpredictable. She has become... arrogant in her ownership of you. She thinks you are her toy."
Helen stepped away and walked back to her chair, the picture of a queen returning to her throne. "I fear she has forgotten who she belongs to. You will go to her. And you will do to her what she did to you. You will remind her who her true Mistress is. Break her for me. Show her you're not her little piggy, and show me what you can become."
