Chapter 16

The back door of the house opened, and there stood Elizabeth and Miriam, silhouetted against the warm light. They didn't speak. They simply unhooked the chain from the veranda railing and pulled, leading him back into the house he had once called home.

Normality, in his family's twisted world, was a swift, brutal reassertion of the established order. His cot was still in the barren room, but now the door was left unlocked. It didn't matter; there was nowhere to go. His days returned to a familiar rhythm of chores and humiliation, his nights to a masterclass in submission. The marks from Doris's whip faded, but the memory of the pain was seared into his soul, a constant reference point for the new depths his mother and sister could plumb.

The most significant change was the introduction of bridge club. Every Thursday afternoon, the house would fill with the rustle of silk dresses, the smell of cigarettes and cigars, the clink of gin and tonic glasses, and the low murmur of feminine conversation. These were not Elizabeth's society friends; they were a different ilk entirely, women with sharp eyes and a predatory stillness. And Eamon was the prize.

The rules were simple but horrifying. The woman who won the most tricks at bridge won Eamon for the night. He became their property to do with as they wished until the next morning.

Some nights were a strange, gentle form of hell. A quiet widow named Mrs. Gable would simply lead him to the guest room and have him lie beside her. She wanted a warm body to hold, a submissive presence to listen to her talk about her dead husband. She'd stroke his hair and call him a "good boy." He was a replacement, a tool for her grief, and he would lie there, stiff and silent, until the sun rose.

Other nights were a symphony of pain. A stern barrister, a colleague of Miriam's named Beatrice, won him once. She didn't want sex. She wanted obedience. She made him kneel on a hard wooden floor for six hours while she read aloud from her latest case. Every time he shifted, every time his muscles screamed in protest, she would mark a line in the file with a crimson pen. Each line was ten lashes with a thin, leather strap in the morning. By the time she was done, his back was a bloody mess, and he had screamed himself hoarse, begging for a mercy she had no intention of giving.

Then there were the nights of pure, unadulterated deviance. He remembered a woman, a doctor named Anjali, with eyes like chips of obsidian. She won him and led him not to a bedroom, but to the sterile, white-tiled bathroom. She brought her medical bag. She catheterized him, not out of need, but out of curiosity, her touch clinical and detached as she discussed his urethra in the detached tones of a medical professional. She took his hair and his semen. She treated him like a fascinating specimen, a living cadaver to be explored, and her cold, scientific detachment was the most terrifying thing he had ever experienced. She examined every opening with gloved hands. He was no longer a person, not even a slave, but a collection of tissues and fluids to be cataloged.

Through it all, he was a vessel for their desires, a canvas for their perversions. He was broken, used, and put away, a toy to be passed from one set of hands to the next, each one leaving its own unique stain on his soul.
