Chapter 9 of 10
She was the first to understand that the fight was over. Wendy's sacrifice had bought nothing. It had only revealed the price Hook was willing to pay for his victories.
The night after Wendy's death, Tiger Lily tried to rally the remaining children. She spoke of escape, of one last, desperate uprising. But the fire in her eyes found no spark to ignite. The children were broken.
Hook sold them to Calico Jack, a rival captain. Tiger Lily was not taken to a harem or a slave camp. Calico Jack led her in chains to the heart of his empire: the infamous port tavern "The Siren's Gulp," a hell of sawdust, spilled rum, and the roar of the most lawless men of the seven seas.
There, in the middle of the common room, was a sand-strewn pit. Calico Jack pushed Tiger Lily into it.
"To celebrate my new acquisition!" he bellowed to the crowd. "A fight to the death!"
From the other end of the pit, another woman was shoved in. She was muscular, her body covered in scars, her eyes burning with animalistic fear and rage. The two women were ordered to strip. To the cheers and bets of the pirates, they faced each other naked.
The fight was brutal and short. Tiger Lily was fast, agile, and fought with the trained precision of a warrior. She dodged the other woman's wild attacks, landing hard blows to her ribs and face. She was the better fighter. She dominated the fight, brought her opponent to the ground, and moved in for a decisive blow.
But in the moment she knelt over the other woman, she saw not hatred in her eyes, but pure desperation. In that tiny hesitation, that flicker of pity, lay her doom. The other woman, with a final burst of strength, rammed a thumb into her eye. A blinding pain shot through Tiger Lily. She cried out and staggered back. Blind in one eye, she was now an easy target. Her opponent threw herself upon her, hitting, biting, and scratching. Tiger Lily fought back, but the battle was lost. Beaten and bloody, she was knocked unconscious by the other woman.
She awoke as she was being dragged from the pit. The victorious woman was led away to applause, to survive another night. Tiger Lily, the loser, was dragged outside to the muddy square in front of the tavern and tied to a wooden post.
Calico Jack stepped before her with a long, thin knife that glinted in the torchlight. He grinned at the cheering crowd. "The show isn't over yet!" he cried. "There's a second act!"
He approached the bound Tiger Lily. What happened next was a horrific, methodical repetition of Wendy's fate. He did not cut wildly, but with the cold precision of a surgeon. First the nipples, which he triumphantly threw to the crowd. Then, slowly and with relish, he mutilated her lower body, cutting off her labia and clitoris and holding up the bloody trophies as the pirates roared.
Tiger Lily's initial, silent bravery broke under the unimaginable agony. Her death scream, when he was finished, was not the end, but the signal for the next phase. Two of his burliest men brought a long, pointed iron stake, as thick as a man's arm, one end black from an old fire. They grabbed Tiger Lily's limp, bleeding form, pressed her back against the post, and placed the tip of the stake at her pubic bone. With combined force, they slowly drove the stake through her body. Her spine splintered, her organs were pierced. A final, choked sound came from her mouth as the bloody tip emerged from her neck. They lifted her high, blood dripping to the ground, and secured the stake over a freshly lit fire. Like a suckling pig, she was slowly turned. The smell of burning flesh mixed with the salty stench of the harbor as her body sizzled, the skin blistering and blackening. The pirates sang a filthy sea shanty and toasted the macabre trophy with their mugs of rum. Her unbroken spirit met its end not in battle, but as a grotesque monument for the eyes of drunken monsters.
