Chapter 3 of 22
Marcus lay awake and sore, his body a map of discomfort. He'd spent most of the night rolling on his upper back like a stranded turtle, every attempt to break the chains on his wrists and ankles just another lesson in futility. The hogtie was surgical—zero slack, zero mercy. His shoulders burned, his hips ached, and his throat felt like he'd been chewing sandpaper. The headache was a dull throb behind his eyes, the kind that came from having your carotid arteries squeezed into submission.
He had plenty of time to reassemble the pieces. He remembered the window, the climb, the kitchen floor under his boots. He remembered stepping into the hallway, thinking the place was empty. Then nothing. Just a void where consciousness should be, followed by the shock of waking up on his side in a narrow hallway, trussed like a Christmas goose.
He'd called out a couple of times—"Hello?" then "HELP!"—his voice cracking with dehydration. Nobody came. The house was silent as a tomb. Eventually, he'd stopped struggling, stopped yelling, and just lay there in the dark, listening to his own breathing and the faint sound of his pulse in his ears. He must have nodded off at some point, because now there was gray light filtering through somewhere, and his bladder was sending urgent signals he couldn't answer.
He heard footsteps on the stairs above. Measured. Deliberate. Two sets. He tried to level himself from the awkward position he’d rolled into. He turned enough that he could look up the stairway through the banisters. Ladies' boots, ankle-length jeans, another set of ladies' shoes, no jeans, dress, or skirt. One of them came into full view as she turned from the stairs into the hallway. The other one disappeared into a doorway behind her.
"Hello, Marcus," Jenifer said, her voice carrying the same easy authority she'd used to calm witnesses. She knelt beside him, her hands surprisingly gentle as she helped him shuffle onto his knees. "Let's see if we can make you more comfortable, shall we?"
Marcus blinked up at her, his vision clearing. She was about his mum's age—sixty, maybe a bit more—with her silver-streaked hair twisted into a severe bun. The way she manhandled his weight told him she was strong. Five-foot-six, stocky build, substantial breasts straining against a silk blouse, glasses perched on her nose like a librarian who could break your arm.
"Listen, luv," Marcus rasped, throat still raw. "I don't know what the fuck is going on here, but you'd better let me go if you know what's good for you. I got people who are gonna be looking for me."
Jenifer smiled, a patient, pleasant expression that didn't reach her eyes. She let him rant, let the empty threats fill the hallway.
"Who is going to come looking for you, Marcus?"
"What?"
"Who exactly is going to come looking for you?" she repeated, her tone conversational, as if discussing the weather. "Who knows you're here?"
The question was phrased in a casual, irrelevant way, but it was valid. Marcus opened his mouth, then closed it. The silence stretched.
"Maybe it's Jason, Debbie, Shirley..." Jenifer recited the eight names from his flip phone with the same cadence she'd once used to read charges. "The rest are bookies, benefits offices, and a curry shop that blacklisted you for non-payment."
Marcus stared at her, the blood draining from his face. He tried to recalibrate. "Look, I'm sorry. I just needed somewhere dry for the night. Didn't mean anything by it. Let me go, and I won't say a word to anybody."
"What won't you say, Marcus?" Jenifer adjusted her glasses. "That you didn't break into someone's home? That you weren't planning to hurt the two spinsters living here alone? That you weren't going to do nasty things to them?"
"What? Fuckin' 'ell, I ain't no perve—"
"Well, I don't know that, do I?" She cut him off with a smile. "And when I call the police in a minute, they're more likely to believe their old Chief Inspector and her partner—the barrister—than some little pond scum with your sheet. Theft, unlawful entry, two cautions for harassment." She leaned closer. "No, Marcus. You're fucked."
He shuffled on his knees, the concrete biting through his jeans. "I need a piss."
"Excuse me?"
"I'm nearly pissing myself. Please."
She studied him, the desperation genuine. Her hand went to her pocket, keys jangling. "Shuffle around on your knees."
"What?"
"So I can reach the ankle cuffs."
He grunted, rotating on the concrete. Jenifer crouched behind him, uncuffed his ankles, then grabbed his collar. "Push up." She hauled him to his feet by the shirt and cuffed wrists, and marched him down the hall to the toilet.
She pushed him past the door, let go of his collar to open it, then grabbed him again and steered him inside. He smiled—as soon as she uncuffed his hands, he'd have a chance.
The smile died as her hands went to his belt.
"What the fuck, lady?"
She ignored him, yanking his jeans and boxers to his ankles. Then she shoved him forward, his forehead against the wall, knees against the toilet bowl. Her arm came around him to lift the seat, then her boot kicked his legs wide in the pooled denim.
"Go on then," she said, holding his collar with one hand, keeping his wrists cuffed behind his back with the other. "You've got thirty seconds.”
Marcus's bladder emptied in a rush, the sound of it hitting the bowl mortifyingly loud. He squeezed his eyes shut, forehead pressed to the cool wall, trying to find some mental space where this wasn't happening. The flow tapered to a trickle, then a drip. Then Jenifer's hand was there—reaching around, pulling back his foreskin, giving him three sharp shakes like he was a toddler who couldn't be trusted to finish properly.
His entire body flushed crimson. She turned, wedged her heel against his to pin his legs against the toilet bowl, and washed her hands in the tiny sink opposite the toilet with methodical thoroughness. The water ran for exactly twenty seconds. She dried her hands on his shirt.
His collar was grabbed, his cuffed wrists seized, and he was hauled backward into the hallway. "What about my jeans? Can I pull them up?"
"No."
She pushed him along, his jeans tangled at his ankles, forcing a humiliating shuffle. Worse, his cock—exposed and bobbing with every step—was betraying him, thickening with each indignity. He'd never been so thoroughly dismantled.
In the kitchen, she shoved him into a wooden chair. She bent down, threaded the leg manacles through the back slats, and snapped them around the rear legs beneath the seat, pulling him flush against the chair back. His cuffed arms were now trapped between his body and the wood, zero leverage, zero movement.
She stepped back to assess her work. "Comfortable?" she asked, as if inquiring about a hotel room. "We'll have breakfast in a bit. Then we'll discuss options.”
The kettle's whistle cut through the kitchen, but Jenifer only had eyes for Sarah. She watched her move through the morning ritual—filling the teapot, setting out cups—with a quiet radiance that had nothing to do with the summer dress clinging to her frame. Her nipples pressed hard against the fabric, dark hair falling loose around her shoulders, the gold collar at her throat the only honest thing about her appearance. Jenifer felt that familiar ache of possession, sharp and sweet. Sarah wasn't wearing underwear. She never did in the house. It was one of the thousand small rules that made them work.
"Morning, love," Jenifer said, her voice softening in a way it never did for anyone else.
Sarah turned, smiled, her whole face lighting up. "Morning, Mistress. Tea?"
"Please."
They moved around each other with the ease of a decade's practice, Jenifer's hand trailing across Sarah's lower back as she passed, Sarah leaning into the touch without breaking stride. The kitchen was theirs—the morning was theirs. The man chained to the chair might as well have been a piece of furniture.
"Marcus sat there ignored "
Sarah poured the tea, added milk and sugar exactly as Jenifer liked it, then brought the cup to the table. She set it down and stayed close, her hip brushing Jenifer's shoulder. Jenifer reached up, traced the line of Sarah's collarbone, land et her fingers rest on the gold collar.
"You look beautiful this morning."
"Thank you, Mistress."
They stood there for a moment, the world narrowed to the space between them. Then Jenifer picked up her tea, sipped it, and glanced at the clock. "We'll deal with him after breakfast. Eggs, I think.”
Sarah nodded, already moving to the fridge. "Scrambled?"
"Perfect."
Behind them, Marcus's erection wilted under the weight of their indifference. Jenifer and Sarah sat at the table like he was a houseplant that had somehow learned to speak. They ate, talked, laughed, held hands, kissed—performing their morning routine with the ease of people who owned every inch of the space they occupied. Another plate sat on the counter, eggs cooling, and soggy toast.
When they finished, Sarah cleared the dishes while Jenifer watched, one hand resting on Sarah's lower back. When they were done, she turned to Marcus.
"Hungry?"
He nodded.
"Cat got your tongue?"
"Yes, I'm hungry."
She brought the cold tea, the congealed eggs, and the soggy toast and arranged them on the table with the care of a nurse serving a patient. Forked up a bite of eggs and held it to his lips. He stared at it.
"Eat," she said gently. "You'll need your strength."
"Look, missus—"
The slap was quick. "One more chance."
He opened his mouth. She fed him bite by bite, counting softly under her breath like a mother with a picky child. When the plate was empty, she patted his head. "Good boy."
"Did you make the call, Sarah?"
"Yes, Mistress. Detective Sergeant Harris. He'll be here by ten."
Jenifer checked the clock: 9:40. "Perfect." She turned to Marcus, her expression pleasant. "That was my old DS. He's coming to take you into custody. Now, we have a bit of a situation, and I think the best thing is to be honest with you."
She sat down across from him, folding her hands on the table like they were having a chat over coffee.
"Here's how this goes. You leave with Harris, and between Sarah's prosecution record and my testimony, you're looking at five years. Maybe more, depending on how the magistrate feels about home invasions and sexual assault. That's option one."
She leaned forward, her voice dropping to a confidential tone.
"Option two is you stay here for six months. You help with the house—sash windows, floorboards, and the garden. I provide room and board. You work hard, do as you're told, and at the end of six months, we call it even. No police, no record."
She smiled, kind and reasonable. "Now, I know what you're thinking. You're thinking, 'I could run.' But here's the thing, Marcus. You will be fitted with a device that will only allow you to go where we decide you can.”
She stood, brushing invisible crumbs from her jeans.”The choice is yours.”
She took Sarah's hand, and they walked out, leaving Marcus chained to the chair with the taste of cold eggs and the dawning realization that he'd already decided.
