Chapter 12

Rosie could feel it, the fraying of Thomas's mind like a worn thread. She had been monitoring him through Beatrice's detailed reports, Alistair's surveillance, and her own observations. The herbs were doing their work, dissolving his confidence, his will, his very sense of self, leaving behind a hollowed-out shell of the man he once was. He was weak, paranoid, and utterly dependent on the wife who was systematically poisoning him. It was time. She decided to pull the trigger on the final act of his destruction. She called Beatrice, her voice crisp with command. "Tonight. I'm coming for dinner. He is not to refuse."

Thomas was terrified when Beatrice relayed the message. The thought of being in the same house as Rosie, let alone sharing a meal, sent a wave of panic through him. But he had no fight left. He simply nodded, his eyes wide with fear. When Rosie arrived, she was elegance personified, but to Thomas, she was a walking nightmare. He fumbled nervously, offering her a drink he could barely keep steady. He was deeply confused when Beatrice greeted Rosie not as a business associate, but like a cherished, intimate friend, kissing her on both cheeks, her hand lingering on Rosie's arm a little too long. His confusion turned to outright shock when Beatrice leaned in and kissed Rosie full on the lips, a kiss that was soft, lingering, and unmistakably passionate.

He sat quietly in the corner of the living room, nursing the drink Beatrice had handed him, not tasting the herbs Beatrice had laced it with. Rosie and Beatrice sat together on the sofa, laughing and chatting, their heads close together, completely ignoring him. He was a ghost in his own home. They ate dinner at the formal dining table, the conversation flowing easily between the two women, a conversation he wasn't a part of. He was an invisible servant, expected to be seen but not heard. When the meal was over, Beatrice turned to him, her voice cold and dismissive. "Be a darling, Thomas, clear the table and clean the kitchen. Rosie and I have things to discuss." He didn't argue. He had no mental strength left to argue. He simply stood up and began to clear the plates, his movements slow. He took his time in the kitchen, washing and drying, hoping against hope that when he returned, Rosie would have left.

No such luck. When he finally returned to the living room, his heart stopped. The scene before him was so surreal, so horrifying, it short-circuited his brain. His wife, his sweet, loving Beatrice, was naked on the Persian rug in front of the fire. And behind her, fully clothed, was Rosie. Her hands were gently cupping Beatrice's breasts, her fingers pulling and teasing the nipples into hard peaks. Her mouth was on the back of Beatrice's neck, placing soft, worshipful kisses on her skin. Despite the soul-shattering shock, Thomas's body betrayed him. He felt a surge of blood rush to his groin, his cock growing harder than it had been in years, a painful, desperate erection straining against his trousers.

As if sensing his presence, Rosie lifted her face from Beatrice's neck. Her dark, bottomless eyes found his. "Ah, Thomas, you're back. Good." She gently pushed Beatrice aside, who remained on the floor, eyes closed in blissful submission. Rosie walked towards him, her hips swaying with a predator's grace. She reached out and stroked his face, her fingers cool against his burning skin. The touch was electric, a jolt of pure pleasure that made him gasp. He closed his eyes, sinking into the sensation. "No," her voice was a soft command. "Open your eyes, Thomas. Look into mine."

He did as he was told. He stared into her eyes, and the world fell away. They were blacker than he remembered, fathomless pools of darkness that promised everything and nothing. They were endless. "Come to me, Thomas," she whispered, her voice soft and gentle, warm and welcoming. "Come home. You can see it all in my eyes." He had to look. He had to see. He leaned closer, his entire being focused on those black, captivating eyes. He could see it all—his life, his loves, his failures—all swirling in the darkness. He could see a new life, a new purpose, a new home. He could see her. Those dark, bottomless eyes were the last thing he ever remembered as his own consciousness shattered, dissolving into the void of her will. He was gone. And in his place, there was only Rosie.
