Novella
Chapter 8 of 8
That was a scary one! I stopped mid way through and decided to drop it entirely. I felt it was too boring, too complex, and messy. And it probably was. Hell, you could probably think it still is!
If, however, you had fun reading it, it’s thanks to a number of people that came to the rescue:
Noosegirl (a 3d artist definitely worth checking out!) gave me some good pointers on moments that felt a bit too rushed and was the first to jump in and help. Something I will forever be grateful for.
Cypher provided a good list of suggestions while being extremely supportive and kind. This is not his first time with me, and that means the world. I’m always glad he takes the time to give me his feedback, which I never take for granted. He also writes some killer stories himself, so check those out!
GloriousNobody texted me through all his reading and I’m so happy he did. It was fun discovering the reactions to all the beats in real time and gave me great confidence to push on.
Jackierr replied “it could be a book!”. And he did so reading the very first draft, a messy, chaotic and full of errors 40 pages document. This is as close as I could get to an actual book, I hope you keep trusting me as much as you did with your first read-through.
Last, but not least, Meph Marwood. The amount of work he did on these pages is difficult to explain in a few sentences: he has edited every typho and every dialogue to make my story readable, and he has done so in multiple passes. He took on the last draft, after all the above suggestions have shaped the story, and with his help and constant encouragement I got off my ass and finished the story, all while helping me avoid my tendency to self-sabotage.
If you had fun with this little adventure and feel happy about having spent the last hour or so with Anita, then the people above deserve as much credit as possible. From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU!
