Chapter 8

The final payment to Bob Lord felt more significant than any other. It was the moment she truly cut the cord from her past, the day she became her own woman in every sense of the word. First, she had the flat above the antique shop cleared and refurbished to her exact specifications. She moved in as soon as the paint was dry, leaving the damp, crumbling house on South Avenue and her father behind for good. Her mother had died of alcohol poisoning two years prior, a slow, pathetic death that had elicited no more from Erin than a weary sigh. Her father was on the same path, his spirit rotted away by cheap whisky and resentment. She had no sympathy for either of them. Their weakness was a choice, and she had chosen strength.

Once she was settled in the new flat, a sleek, modern space above the cluttered history below, she invited Tom around to help her christen it. He accepted with an eagerness that was almost pathetic.

He was sitting on her sofa, a glass of whiskey in his hand, when she disappeared into her bedroom. She returned with a much sturdier, metal collar she had found in the chest, and a set of hog-tie manacles.

"You have a choice, Tom," she said, her voice soft. "A choice about how you want to live your life. About what you want." She watched him closely, saw the flicker of understanding, and then fear, in his eyes.

The breaking of Tom Lord was a masterpiece of psychological and sensual manipulation. It didn't happen in one night. It was a slow, deliberate process, a chipping away at his conventional masculinity until only the raw, obedient core remained. It started with commands. "Kiss my boots." "Stand in the corner." "Don't speak unless I give you permission." Each act of submission was met with a reward—a touch, a word of praise, the promise of pleasure. Each act of hesitation was met with a consequence—a cold shoulder, the sting of her palm, the sharp edge of her voice.

She introduced him to more of the chest's contents. She broke him down with pleasure and pain, with tenderness and cruelty, until he couldn't tell where one ended and the other began. He became besotted with her, not in spite of her dominance, but because of it. She was the center of his universe, the sun around which his world revolved. He worshiped her. He would have done anything for her.

As her own business thrived, Erin's influence grew. Older antique dealers retired, and she was the first one they called, buying them out and absorbing their client lists. Soon, she ran five successful shops across Kent, while still acting as the Lord family's unofficial financial advisor. She was stretched thin, her time a commodity more valuable than money. During a particularly hectic period, while she was overseeing the clearance of a large country house, she met Donna.

Erin noticed her immediately. She wasn't with the other potential buyers, casually browsing. She was watching, her eyes missing nothing, her movements too purposeful. She was casing the place. Erin had seen it a hundred times with the Lords. She excused herself and walked over, intercepting Donna as she was examining the lock on a French window.

"Can I help you with something?" Erin asked, her voice neutral.

Donna looked at her, a flicker of surprise in her eyes quickly masked by a practiced, charming smile. "Just admiring the craftsmanship, love. Beautiful old windows."

They are," Erin agreed. "They're also wired to a new alarm system. And I know what somebody casing a place looks like."

The smile vanished. Donna's eyes narrowed, assessing her. She made a mistake, one many people did. She saw a stout, plain-looking woman in her late twenties and assumed she was soft. A dyke, probably, who'd be flattered by a bit of attention. She tried to seduce her, her voice dropping, her hand brushing Erin's arm.

Erin played along, a slow, predatory smile spreading across her face. "You're bold," she said. "I like that. Why don't you come back to my flat? We can talk more there. I've got a shop just down the road. You can have a look around while I close up." She gave her the address, watching the greedy, calculating look in Donna's eyes. She was thinking she could rob the shop, too. Perfect.

Back at the flat, Donna's seduction attempt was clumsy and direct. Erin let her get close, let her think she was in control. Then, she struck. It was fast, brutal, and effective. A moment later, Donna was naked, gagged, and tightly bound, with her own belt around her neck as a makeshift collar and leash, tied off to a heavy table leg. Erin went down to the shop's basement, where she'd already had Tom install a heavy chain and a metal collar bolted to the floor. She came back up and locked it around Donna's neck.

Donna stared up at her, her eyes wide with shock and a dawning, terrifying realization. But beneath the fear, Erin saw something else. She saw resilience. She saw a spark of the same ruthless ambition that drove Erin herself. She saw a survivor. And in that moment, Erin made a decision.

"I could hand you over to the police," Erin said, her voice calm. "Or... I could offer you a job. Running one of my shops. You've got a good eye, and you've clearly got a flair for taking what you want."

Donna's eyes widened. She nodded, a frantic, desperate motion.

"Good," Erin said, unlocking the collar. "Welcome to the family."

Donna became more than an employee. She became a lover, a confidant, and Erin's most trusted lieutenant. She had a natural flair for business and an unerring ability to spot a valuable find. She understood Erin's nature without explanation, and she shared it. She had been with her ever since, her right hand, her shadow, the keeper of her secrets.
