Novella
Chapter 2 of 24
The first month after her discovery was not a descent into a new kind of hell, but a meticulous exploration of the one she was already in. The initial, raw shock of being hog-tied and degraded solidified into the unshakeable foundation of her new reality. Clara learned that her previous life, the one where she was a wife, was a fairytale. Her true existence was as an object, a canvas for the humiliation and pleasure of Eleanor and Mark.
The punishments were constant and always framed as lessons for her own good. If Eleanor's tea was allowed to cool by a single degree, Clara would spend an hour on her knees, holding a penny to the wall with her nose. If Mark's shirts weren't perfectly ironed, Eleanor would make her count the strokes from a wooden ruler across her palms, each one delivered with a cold, instructional commentary on her inadequacy. The teasing was a form of psychological torture. They would fuck in the shared bed while Clara was forced to stand in the corner, facing the wall, forbidden to turn around, the sounds of their passion a constant reminder of what she was excluded from.
The bondage became more intricate, more artistic. Eleanor, it turned out, had a talent for shibari, and she took a painterly pleasure in binding Clara. She would spend hours wrapping Clara in elaborate patterns of jute rope, turning her body into a living sculpture of helplessness. A favorite suspension position left Clara hanging horizontally from the ceiling in the living room, like a piece of grotesque modern art, her mouth held open by a ring gag, ready to be used at their convenience.
The tasks grew more demeaning. She was no longer just the housekeeper; she was their furniture. Eleanor would rest her feet on Clara's back while she read the paper. Mark would use her as a footstool while watching television. She was made to eat her meals from a bowl on the floor, lapping up the bland gruel they provided with only her tongue. Her name was abolished. She was "it," "the creature," or, most often, simply nothing at all. Her presence was acknowledged only when a task was to be assigned or a punishment was to be delivered.
The invitation for Uncle Alistair arrived on a crisp Saturday. Clara was cleaning the bathroom grout with a toothbrush when she heard Eleanor's voice from the living room, sharp and pleased.
"My darling brother is coming to visit! He'll be so thrilled to see how well you're doing, Mark, and to meet your... new pet."
Clara's blood ran cold. Uncle Alistair was Eleanor's older brother, a retired brigadier in his mid-seventies, a man whose photograph she had seen on the mantelpiece. He had the same severe features as Eleanor, the same air of unshakeable authority, but amplified by a lifetime of military command.
On the day of his arrival, Clara's preparations were meticulous and humiliating. She was bathed by Eleanor, her body scrubbed until her skin was raw. She was dressed in a sheer white negligee that offered no modesty. Her collar was polished until it gleamed. She was positioned in the center of the living room floor, kneeling, her thighs spread, her hands clasped behind her back, her eyes downcast.
The doorbell rang, and Eleanor went to greet him, Mark standing beside her like an obedient lieutenant. Clara could hear their cheerful greetings from the hallway.
"And where is this fascinating acquisition you mentioned in your letter, Eleanor?" Alistair's voice was a deep, rumbling baritone, laced with aristocratic amusement.
"Right here, brother," Eleanor said, leading him into the room. "Our little project."
Clara didn't dare look up, but she could feel his gaze on her, assessing, cataloging. He circled her slowly, his polished shoes clicking on the hardwood floor.
"Exquisite," he finally declared. "Such a lovely canvas. But is it... functional?"
"Perfectly," Mark said, a note of pride in his voice. "Completely broken and retrained."
"Excellent. I find I'm rather fatigued from my journey," Alistair said, settling into the armchair that Clara was no longer allowed to use. "A spot of sport would do wonders for my constitution."
Eleanor and Mark exchanged a look of shared, cruel delight. They sat together on the sofa, their arms around each other, looking like a couple on a date, ready to be entertained.
"Of course, brother," Eleanor purred. "It's here for your use. Be as rough as you like. We enjoy a good show."
Clara began to tremble, a silent, violent shudder that racked her entire body. This was a new depth of violation. Not just to be used by her husband and his mother, but to be offered up like a party favor to a near-stranger. To be watched while it happened by the two people who were supposed to be her family.
Alistair approached her, unbuckling his belt. He didn't speak to her, didn't even look her in the eyes. He simply grabbed her hair, yanking her head up, and forced himself into her mouth. The act was brutal, devoid of any intimacy, a pure exercise in dominance. He used her throat with a soldier's efficiency, his grunts of exertion mingling with the soft, appreciative murmurs from Eleanor and Mark on the sofa.
Clara's mind detached, floating somewhere above the scene. She could see it all: the old man using her body, the mother and son watching from the couch, their heads close together, whispering and laughing as if they were at the cinema. She was the film. She was the entertainment. She was nothing.
When Alistair was finished, he simply pushed her away, wiping himself on her negligee before tucking himself back into his trousers. "Most refreshing," he declared, returning to his seat as if nothing had happened.
Clara lay in a heap on the floor, her body aching, her soul screaming into the void. But no sound came out. She had learned that lesson well. Through the haze of her degradation, she looked over at the sofa. Eleanor was stroking Mark's hair, and they were both smiling. They looked at her, not with pity or even contempt, but with the calm satisfaction of artists admiring their completed work. She was pathetic. She was nobody. And in that horrifying, soul-crushing moment, she knew, with absolute certainty, that she was exactly where they wanted her to be.
