Chapter 2 of 13
In the beginning, I saw nothing, heard nothing, and felt nothing. My body wasn't my own and I wasn't allowed to exist. Until the universe was born. I sprung into existence onto the first plane of land in reality, a twenty-foot-tall celestial being that was quadrupedal and was considered a red fox by mortals. I had no control over anything but myself as I had not even realised where I was or why I was. My existence both excited me and scared me. My life had no meaning but I was still here. Why? What was the point of being here when nothing was there but myself and green grass? I asked this question for a while until giant holes filled with water appeared in front of me. My life suddenly had a purpose: to find who made these holes. I slowly wandered through space, learning about my abilities. I was able to fly and do pretty much anything I thought of except make things or destroy them. I could shift the land and move it but anything I wanted couldn't make appear in my paws. I ran through the cosmos, them now alive and shiny. This fueled my quest for finding the creator, and after a few decades a millennium, of searching, I found them. The goddess Hecate. She created everything and could do anything. She controlled everything but had dominion over all magic. We talked and it turns out we lived similarly before the creation of the universe. She asked me to help form the land for the mortals. She knew I couldn't make anything, but I can change things into whatever I wanted. I agreed since I wanted to mean. My life was nothing until I met her, and it only grew after we met. I ran through the cosmos and spread only my love and care to the land for the mortals who would come. I likely spent millennia simply forming land. When we finished, we thought of what to do for the mortals. We knew our divinity would hurt them and staying with the land would cause it to overgrow. We questioned what to do, though it took more than millennia for our thinking to finish. We came up with a new land for divine beings. Beings of so much power we couldn't be around the land itself. That is, only the land of the mortals. Our land was made by the dust of leaves and animals. We formed it into a giant village where all divine beings had to come to. If they were true divinity, they would have to be forced to come here as many would try to help the mortals. We want to help them but our essence of living is too potent for the land. Plus, looking at our resting form can cause any mortal to go insane. And so, after this, we waited. We watched as our brethren formed into living beings. I despatched a few immortal messengers of divinity, though not divine themselves, to help us understand. The souls of a few entered newly born bodies, from which we could watch from. We had no control but their eyes were ours to watch through. Sadly, a few of them needed to come back as they grew into divinity. These few are those which Hecate named in her journal entry. Though, that I do believe happened after our search for the tear. I heard from a few messengers of our divinity that there was a tear in reality which when mortals entered and came back, they gained divine powers and understanding. They became divine and this was a problem. Sadly, all of them were brought back, but none could disclose the location of the tear. A few of these unfortunate beings were also some which my divinity was in. I hoped I could help them to become mortals again, though that is out of both mine and Hecate's power. So, we left in search of this tear. The new divine beings were given tasks and the doors were locked for millennia as we searched. I did have to be the one to tell her that the tear existed but it was so far and hard to find even we had trouble finding. When we finally got there we met a cute but big squirrel named Ratatoskr. He explained how he manages and explains to mortals that divinity can be achieved but it must be earned. He was surprised we retained our powers since apparently most are supposed to lose them upon entering here. We made a small arrangement where Ratatoskr makes a list of twenty people every decade which Hecate will test mentally and Ratatoskr would test physically. I gave my opinion on them and that was the story. It is now 2050 and we observe from the cosmos, helping when it's needed and when it's wanted. Though only brief moments are allowed, we visit those who need it and help them. I work as a general advisor and oversee a few mortal worlds. When I visited one for a short time, the natives called me Inari. Perhaps they had me mixed up with another goddess? I cannot know everyone, though I wish I did. I also will often help newcomers with their roles and jobs until they get used to it. Because everyone being immortal would be a problem, we also came up with souls. Only those that are chosen as immortals will be reincarnated with their past memories and powers. These reincarnated beings can sometimes stay in mortal realms. Quite ingenious if you ask me. We do die but not in a way of conventional thinking. We simply cease to exist until a fetus is chosen for us again. If a god steps down, we move on and choose another. Currently, we can only hold a max of about 100 gods in the universe. We will expand this number so please if you're reading this, expect more room in our village soon. Sayonara diary, I'll see you some other year./p
